| The best AI is specific

Welcome to the first issue of the Leverage newsletter, and thanks for being early. This newsletter is for asset managers who need AI that stands up to the rigor of their workflows.

Hypha is depth-first AI OS, it learns your data structure, your workflows, and your constraints. Every output ties back to sources and routes into the workflows where the truths and insights live. Breadth-first AI tools demo well and degrade on the desk, depth-first systems compound.

At Hypha, we’re building something connected. Our goal is to help you link every part of your asset management system — every property intel PDF, every complex financial projection, every floating snippet of loan data — into one smooth platform.

Our approach to building AI focuses on growing our expertise to build depth-first AI. We learn from observing our design partners and make precise improvements that work with their daily workflows, not against them.

Along the way, we’ve learned a ton — from all of our design partners who have lent a hand in Hypha’s success, and from our co-founder Simcha’s background assembling a $4 billion portfolio in healthcare real estate.

We’d never want to keep all these insights to ourselves!

We’re glad you’re here. Let’s get to work.

So, in each edition of Leverage, we’ll share (through observation and discourse) thinking, frameworks, and actual tactics from our network of lenders.

All so you can:

  • Source better deals

  • Scale origination volume

  • Take on new challenges

  • Address the issues that need your attention (instead of verifying data)

  • Build relationships that last

… and maybe even have a little more fun at work 🙂

This week, we’re kicking things off with one of our AI builder hot takes: In institutionalized industries, the depth-first approach to building AI beats out breadth every time.

Next time: We’ll get into the details of how the way we build AI makes your life eons easier. Today, you’re getting a sneak peek at the philosophy behind Hypha.

Our Mission at Hypha

Owning the market is better than renting the market.
A human-first focus builds better products than a tech-first focus.
Momentum beats perfection.

Those are the principles we're built on.

Earlier this year, Simcha and I joined forces to bring asset management into the AI era.

Those are the principles we're built on.

At Hypha, we know our “why”: to build something durable that will last as long as the core banking platform for institutions.

Building something different

If you ask us, a durable platform needs to be human-first.

Technology waves will continue to emerge and integrate with our lives, but new technology should assist us, not replace us.

We choose to build a platform that helps teams collaborate and make high-leverage decisions together

We don't just pull the facts out of documents — we get how all the information connects.

We also watch how loan underwriters, asset managers, and portfolio managers actually work — we look over their shoulder — then build software that fits their workflows.

Being human-led means:

  • Interfaces that match up with the way people think

  • Role-specific tools that map to how teams actually work

  • AI that augments judgment instead of pretending to replace it

At Hypha, we’re always sprinting toward the next improvement, because speed with focus compounds.

We’re all about precision, and that’s what financial software needs.

Here are some ideas that caught our eye:

  • Our friends at Monticello, in partnership with BlackRock, announced equity investments and the execution of a revolving credit facility and a repurchase agreement.

  • How is private credit changing in the healthcare industry? WhiteHorse Capital leaders talk about it.

  • The nursing home industry is doing well — and lenders are taking notice.

Hypha 🤝 Monticelloam

We’re very excited to shout out our new design partner, Monticelloam! 🎉

Monticello is a specialized multifamily and seniors housing lending platform, with expertise in providing bridge loans and managing credit risk. They understand what lenders in the skilled nursing facilities and multifamily real estate space need, because they’re in the same world.

As our design partner, their team is teaching us all about their work. (Sometimes we literally watch over their shoulder.)

We’re grateful for their partnership as we build Hypha.

Plus, what we’re working on: A guide for why asset managers need depth-first AI solutions, and what it all looks like in practice.

We couldn’t do it without you (and we don’t want to anyway). Let us know what’s on your mind, what’s blocking you, or what you want to see more of.

Each week, we’ll ask the questions you want answered — and help gather responses from your peers.

Next time, we’ll share your answers!

In a world full of generic AI, you deserve a precise solution.

That’s what drives our commitment to depth-first building.

As we build this community together, we'd love your feedback on what topics would be most valuable to you. Hit reply and let us know what you want to see more of. (Or less of.)

After all, rapid iteration is one of our core principles, and that applies to newsletters too. 🏃

Let’s dive deeper together,

— Peter
